Concetta - Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Galižana is considered the oldest church in this area. The church was built on the foundations of ancient oil mills in the 6th and 7th centuries.
It is a single-nave church with an inscribed apse. At this time it held a large crucifix, probably originating from the 12th century Lombard school, one of the most valuable wooden statues in this area.
According to tradition, Concetta was visited by Austrian Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Habsburg when he traveled in these parts towards the Brijuni Islands. More recently, gothic frescoes have been discovered in the interior of the church above the gatway.
